Item Details

For your consideration is this vintage 1956 Gretsch 6131 "Jet Firebird" electric guitar. This particular example, serial number 17046, is in fine vintage all original condition and includes a non original Gretsch reissue hard shell case! The Gretsch Duo Jet and Jet Firebird are perhaps the most iconic non-hollowbody Gretsch guitars of the '50s, and have been played by the likes of George Harrison, Jeff Beck, and Bo Didley. With incredible DeArmond-made Dynasonic pickups and an unbelievably classic design, the Jet Firebird has long been admired by all types of great players, and this one is currently an incredibly amazing bargain, because this guitar is being sold with No Reserve and FREE Worldwide shipping!

Serial Number: 17046
(within the first 50 made in '56)
Pickup Resistance: 11.75?, 10.19?

Weight: 7 lb.s 10 oz.

This Jet Firebird features: a semi-solid mahogany body consitrction with the original bound "Oriental" red maple carved top, a mahogany neck, bound ebony fingerboard with block inlays, (2) DeArmond Dynasonic single coil pickups, a "Space Control" bridge, a  "G" tailpiece, a black teardrop-shaped pickguard with a white Gretsch logo and the original Grover Sta-Tite open back tuning machines.

Surprisingly the cosmetic condition of the guitar and it's parts is
extremely nice. There is very little superficial wear on the top, back,
and sides, with only some obvious wear around the edges of the body.
There is also expected playing wear through the delicate black finish on
the back of the neck. However, usually these guitars display much more
wear, due to the thin application of the blach finish on the back,
sides, and neck. The original frets are in excellent shape, and the neck
is fantastic. The guitar is highly playable and very comfortable: it
does not need any work or servicing whatsoever, and it feels and plays
great the way it is. The ever-amazing Dynasonic pickups sound fantastic
and are extra robust. It is truly a guitar with an overwhelmingly
spectacular personality, and it is clear why so many great guitar
players are attracted to this and similar models.

This guitar is in very nice, well-preserved, all original condition, and was purchased from the original owner's family. According to the original owner's son, the case had deteriorated, so I paired it up with this new Gretsch hard case. The guitar is in very excellent condition as stated, however, the original owner insisted that his so remove his personal SSN from the back of the headstock with polish. Though it is impossible to make out the specific info, there is some residual white outline from font. The remaining can probably be removed fairly easily by someone familiar with doing such, but since it appears his technique also removed a little black finish, I'll leave it up to the next owner to decide.

Best of luck, and thanks so much for looking!
