This auction is for a 1968 Gretsch Viking Project husk. No parts are included. Just the neck + body husk. The Viking was one of Gretsch's top of the line models during that time. As you can see, the binding is Really BAD. The neck binding is mostly there, although some of it has cracked and chipped. The body and headstock binding has mostly crumbled off over time. Binding issues are common with mid to late 60's Gretsches. The neck is straight, the neck angle is good and the truss rod works. There are no cracks in the wood. There is a separation in the center seam wood joint on the back of the neck. Most Gretsch necks were made of two pieces of wood and sometimes the joint begins to separate over time. It is solid and not coming apart. It is not cracked. You could put some glue in there, or just leave it alone. It's not moving or going anywhere. The separation is most visible just behind the nut, and at the top of the headstock where the serial number is. The frets show some rust (which can be polished out) and some wear, but they're in good shape. There's plenty of life left, but please remember that Gretsch frets were small to begin with. They were never like Gibson Jumbos. The ebony fret board is in good shape. What you see in the pics is years of dirt and grunge which can be removed with lemon oil and elbow grease. The fingerboard shows some wear, but it's not all gouged out like some vintage fingerboards. So overall, this is a solid, original vintage project with lots of wear and character.
