Up for auction is a mid 1970's Gretsch Country Gentleman 6122-II with open F-holes (as opposed to the painted on ones of the 6122) and no backpad. It sounds warmer than the 6122 and this example plays wonderfully. The neck is laser straight and like most vintage Gretsch's, a bit higher than your average Fender or Gibson. Everything on the guitar is original and functioning properly, including the Filtertron pickups and nearly unblemished pickguard. The binding has matured to a very lovely honey yellow and it in perfect shape - no binder rot whatsoever, which is extremely rare for a vintage Gretch! The Bigsby tail piece is in perfect shape with some of the finish worn off from years of playing.
The frets are also original and are nice and low, still very playable, even after years in the hands of Chicago blues legend Melvin Taylor. In fact, this guitar is on the cover of one of the Slack Band albums from my understanding. The Master volume pot has a little fuzz to it, but it just needs some pot cleaner and it should be good. The finish is worn off the back of the neck and has come off a bit at the heel of the neck. There is also some finish separation on the headstock, a small bit on the front near the nut and a bit in between the tuners on the back of the headstock. There is also some finish checking on the body along a couple parts of the woodgrain, but all in all, the guitar has a wonderfully natural reliced look to it. It has been played and loved and
Only reason I am selling it this cheaply is to afford another guitar - in this case, a Gibson ES-335 I need for touring. Chicagoland residents are welcome to come by to inspect and play. International shipping is not available at this time. All sales are final. Item will be shipped insured by UPS to the US.
Thanks for looking and good luck.
