1979 Gretsch Broadkaster w/OHSC!

Excellent Condition, Great Gretsch Sound!

Here's a relatively rare USA-made late 1970's Gretsch Broadkaster Model 7609 hollowbody electric archtop. Last in a line of thin-hollowbody ES-335-style models beginning with the Monkees Rock'n'Roll in 1967, the Baldwin-era Broadkaster is 16" wide and 1 3/4" deep and features a laminated maple top with true f-holes and a laminated rock maple neck. Both top and back are multi-bound. Other features include 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with zero fret and dot inlay, dual DiMarzio humbucking pickups, BadAss bridge/tailpiece with individual saddles, black pickguard, chrome hardware, master volume control on upper treble bout, individual volume/tone controls, and 3-way selector switch on the upper bass bout. The Gretsch "T"-roof logo inlay on the headstock completes the look.

Overall this '79 Broadkaster is in excellent condition and plays effortlessly. The serial number handwritten on the label inside the f-hole, 12-8188, indicates a December 1978 build date and most likely a 1979 model. The transparent red rosewood finish has aged to an rediish orange color and looks faded when the light hits it at the right angle, thus the pictures. There are some small nicks and indents here and there on the body, all typical and not very noticeable, but there is one deep 1/4"-long crunch on the top beneath the master volume control. A small scratch at the top of the peghead (see photo) is really the only other noticeable cosmetic issue. The original tuners look to have been replaced in the past, then the newer holes were filled-in and a near new set of Grover Statites is currently on the guitar, an excellent upgrade. The Bigsby tailpiece is not original, a "G" tailpiece would have been, and the older bottom strap button hole is visible if you look closely. The Bigsby is also an excellent improvement (IMO). The back of the neck is smooth and fast with a just a few small marks, and the rosewood 'board and wide, meaty frets are in outstanding condition. Playability and action are superb, and the DiMarzio pickups sound terrific. All electronics and controls work smoothly, and this 31-year old Gretsch hollowbody is really a blast to play. This model gets a bad rap sometimes because it is from the "Baldwin era", however I can't imagine that you could be disappointed with the value you'll find in this guitar. It is a genuine near-vintage USA-made Gretsch in great condition and includes the original hardshell case with the electric green flannel lining.
