TONS OF MOJO!!!
The body on this guitar is heavy - it weighs just under 9-lbs. The neck is the C-profile and has the strip of darker wood up the center where the truss rod is. The action is really nice. It's set up with Beefy Slinky 11 strings which really bring out the tone. I also put a new (longer) spring on the trem which brings the bar out a bit more. I'll include the original spring.
The guitar
comes complete with the pictured case that has a large Jagermeister
sticker on the back and shop tags hanging off the handle. She was
indeed road played. The whole kit just oooooozes Mojo! You won't come
across another guitar kit that looks like this, and she absolutely
RIPS!!! Every time someone sees this guitar, they have to know the
story behind it.
THE REST OF THE STORY:
She's a 1989
Japanese Tele with genuine Gretcsh Tremolo - road-band traveled and played by some eight-ball,
speed-metal-head. I bought this guitar here on Ebay in March '04. She hardly fit the description she was given - she was played hard, raod-thrashed , and put away wet. The owner did a number on puffing up his auction
description big-time. After the initial disappointment turned into
regret, I called the guy up to ship it back to him and this is what he
had to say for himself,
"Duu-u-u-ude. Trust me dude. You
gotta trust me on this. Just put some Beefy Slinkies on her and give
her a few notes and you won't put her down! You will love this guitar."
The
guy sounded just like Jeff Spicoli from "Fast Times".
Spicoli was right.
After taking the guitar through its paces and hearing her notes, I decided to
take Spicoli at his word
and follow through with the purchase. About 20 hours of
labor later, new string trees, bass plate, volume knob plate, strap locks,
new screws to hold on the new solid black
wet-sanded pick-gaurd she is what you see. When
i got her there were literally a couple chunks of paint missing in places on the yellow
body. I sanded these places down to the clear-coat varnish on the Ash
planks. Now she's only got about half her yellow paint left but Spicoli was right! This guitar absolutely
RIPS!!! This guitar has AWESOME TONE, and EASY ACTION.
What really
makes this tele a unique piece is the genuine Gretsch trem which adds some major mojo! I don't have an exact date on the
trem, but it has real needle bearings not the nylon bushings of
late models so I know it was made back when they made things right.
