Hello, and thanks for stopping by. Really hate to part with this, but I’m just not playing it and it’s so cool, it should be played. This is a pretty unusual Tele, especially from Fender. Here’s what the Gretsch web site has to say about it.
“When Jimmy Eat World guitarist and frontman Jim Adkins collaborated with Fender® in designing his perfect guitar, the result was his signature JA-90 Telecaster® Thinline. Fender craftsmen sat down with Adkins and went over his old Fender TC-90 spec by spec, making several important changes that subsequently produced this unique model. Features include a mahogany neck set into a semi-hollow ash body, Seymour Duncan® soap-bar pickups, independent volume and tone controls, Adjusto-Matic™ bridge and anchored tailpiece. Sweetness.”
It’s a nice guitar as it is, but I couldn’t leave well enough alone. The stock pickups sounded good, but being single-coils, they picked up a lot of noise, moreso than other P-90s or Strat or Tele pickups I’ve worked with. So I upgraded them to a $270 pair of Lindy Fralin hum-canceling P-90s. And being the Bigsby kinda guy I am, I added a Vibramate and US-made Bigsby B-5. That turned this into a powerful yet twangin’ machine. The only downside to having a Tele with a Bigsby on it is that it no longer fits into a standard Fender case. However, this guitar fits perfectly in a Gretsch Duo Jet case, so I bought one . There’s one imperfection, two if you count pick scratches on the pickguard (but isn’t that why we HAVE pickguards?): There is a ding on the back of the headstock where it looks like the edge was dragged along an abrasive surface. It’s on the back, but it’s all the way down to the wood. Someone (presumably the dealer I bought it from) sealed and clearcoated it so it won’t get any worse, but it’s there. At least you can’t see it from the front. Given that the list price on this guitar is $995, and all the added features, this is a bargain.
Buyer pays all shipping costs, and I’ll ship it UPS Ground (insured, of course), unless you want it sooner and want to pay for UPS Red or Blue Label. I shouldn’t have to say this, because we’re all adults here, but your bid is a legal contract, and if you are the winning bidder, you will be expected to complete the transaction. Please ask any questions before bidding. ebay seems to only allow payment via PayPal, so that’s how you need to pay, unless you pick it up locally, then cash is fine, too. Thanks again for stopping by, and happy bidding! I’ve got other fun stuff for sale now, too, so be sure to check out my other listings!
