Re-listed with a Price attractive for Collectors, Players, or even a Dealer for resale. Previously listed a few weeks ago @ Buy It Now $3999. *Dropped $1000.00!!* *(ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS)* *5 DAYS ONLY!* C.F. Martin Limited Edition Merle Travis D-28M #41 of 100. Pre-owned / Very Near Mint Condition. Although the production year by serial number is listed as a 2008, I ordered, received and sold this instrument new mid 2009 to one of my best customers who goes thru several nice instruments a year. This instrument is based upon the Merle Travis 1941 D-28
on which he collaborated with Paul Bigsby (Bigsby Electric Guitars & Bigsby
Vibratos) to have a "Bigsby" neck with the distinctive Bigsby headstock design
installed. This maple neck / ebony fretboard is very "electric" feeling and has
six-on-a-side Gotoh tuning gears and a nut width of 1 21/32"; C.F. Martin &
Co. Gold decal on back of headstock. Woods: Adirondack Spruce Top, Madagascar
Rosewood Back & Sides. The original was of Adirondack Spruce / Brazilian
Rosewood and was sold in 1997 for $264,000. by Christie's Auction House.
Madagascar is very close to Brazilian in appearance & tone and while still
rare is much more affordable than Brazilian Rosewood. Many high-end builders are using Madagascar as
their wood of choice for a good Brazilian substitute. Braces: Adirondack Spruce 5/16"
standard X, forward shifted. Style 28 rosette, herringbone top trim, over-sized
beveled Bigsby pickguard. The nut, saddle, and bridge pins are bone. Ebony
bridge and ebony fingerboard with inlays: Heart @ 3rd, Club @ 5th, Diamond @
7th, Spade @ 9th, Bar with 2 dots @ 12th, and a Diamond @ 15th fret. Two
interior Labels, One Merle and sequence # label , the other is the Martin Label
with actual signatures of: 1.Thom Bresh ( Son of Merle) 2. Fred Gretsch, (Present
owner of Bigsby) and 3. CF Martin 1V. Don't let the unique looks of this rare
guitar fool you, this guitar has that serious "Martin" drive and tone. Original
hardshell case. *This customer never sends in the original paperwork. The very
few and very small tidbits that keep this instrument from being new/mint: 1. slight pickwear on the guard which could easily be buffed out, 2. two tiny pings on the upper and lower sides
of the soundhole where a soundhole pickup was mounted. These are so small they
will not show in the pics, and almost have to feel for them rather than see
them. 3. A stainless steel strap button on the neck, and a replacement strap
button @ the bottom. I am being highly critical in this description, other than
these mentioned details this instrument is mint and is in highly collectable condition. If you are a Merle Travis fan or a Travis-Style picker, it just can't
get any better than this! New Retail is $7999. , MAP is $6399. I will sell and ship only within the continental borders of the US.. All Sales Are Final. Thanks, Tommy Allen, Atlanta Premier Guitars
