This is a 1966 Gretsch Tennessean,
serial # 126196 (Dec. 1966), in somewhat modified condition. It has the original finish. The neck is straight, and the guitar plays
well. But, someone had mounted a middle
pickup, rewired the guitar, and now plugged the routing with a mahogany block
of wood, and covered with a plaque that reads “Customed for Luther Stamps”. The
guitar’s original Hilo-tron pickups seem to sound OK, but I don't think one or two of those switches are currently hooked up to work. We have no other parts for this guitar... What you see is what you get.
The body binding has started to
crumble with age, the tuners have been changed to Grovers, and the pickguard, tune-o-matic bridge, and tailpiece are all replacements…. The latter being a very desirable 1950’s
style nickel-plated Gibson tailpiece. There is a 1-inch strip of binding missing along the treble side of the fingerboard at about the first fret. The guitar has some promise if someone wants to do a bit of restoration,
or just simply play it 'as is' to be a good vintage 'utility' player's guitar. It weighs a light 6 pounds 14.5 ounces, and has never had a neck re-set nor does it need one. The case is a modern padded chipboard, apparently
made for an Alvarez acoustic, but it at least helps protect the guitar for
shipping.
