Ovation DS768-CCB Longneck Long Neck Baritone Acoustic Guitar

I purchased this instrument new in 1997 at a clinic given by virtuoso acoustic guitarist Adrian Legg, in Mesa, AZ. This guitar was set up specifically for him. After his presentation, playing this very guitar, amongst others, I met Mr. Legg and purchased the Longneck. "Buying this one are you? Oh, you'll REALLY be happy with this instrument!" And he was right!
This guitar is truly a special, and unique instrument. It has a 28 1/3" scale length - thus the "baritone" description. I've used it primarily "around the house," taking it out to perform fingerstyle and practice solo acoustic pieces. I've only gigged with it once, where background acoustic music was required for a corporate cocktail party. Other than that, she's stayed in the case (ALWAYS!!!), in the southern part of the USA. As you know, it's a low humidity situation in Arizona, so there are no mold issues, no binding separation, no fret lifting, no fret rust or pitting of the gold tuning keys.
I've always been partial to the cherry sunburst finish Ovation uses on their high-end guitars. Beautiful, rich cherry around the edges, with the delicate lightening of the hue towards the middle. The 4-piece wood soundhole Epaulet's are beautiful, providing a rich tone from the top sound board. All of the rubber plugs for the sound holes are included (15 total). The top is solid spruce.
Amplification is provided by the OP-X preamp system. (The manual has the older OP24 system - this guitar was a first run instrument sent out to AZ specifically for Mr. Legg!) There are four frequency adjustments - low shelf, 600Hz & 6kHz bell, and a high shelf, plus a sweepable notch filter to control feedback. The notch filter has an in/out switch, plus there is a master gain control and EQ in/out switch. Both the notch and gain knobs can be pushed in (shown in pictures) to lock the setting in. Push the knob to pop it out for adjustment (they're both spring loaded). I'll also include a new 9V battery, installed.
The neck is a 5-piece design, with two strips of maple forming a "racing stripe" down the back. There is NO damage to the headstock, which is often seen on these types of guitars - no "cymbal scars" or damage to the flared headstock. She's never been dropped or fallen off the couch. These headstocks can be delicate, so look closely at others!!! The mahogany on the neck has some flame in it, and you can see it in the right light - these pictures don't really do it justice.
The frets have a billion years of life in them (ok, maybe a million....) and the ebony fingerboard is simply a pleasure to play. The inlays are wood! I call them the "SORRY!" inlays, because they look like the playing pieces from the kids game SORRY! (probably not a great way to describe them, "Sorry... about the inlays !!!) OK, call them "Hershey's Kisses Inlays," that's a sweeter description (DOH!) I always thought they were really cool - very earthy & organic. I'm not exactly sure what wood was used, but it looks like maple. The bridge is walnut and there are no signs of lifting or finish checking at the edges. The nut width is 1 11/16 inches.
The tuning keys are gold Schallers, which I've tightened down a bit (some folks like the keys a bit looser - the tension is adjustable via a screw on the edge of the key). And speaking of tuners, this guitar should be tuned down a whole step. This is what gives her the deep, rich tone - absolutely stunning for solo work. Huge. Do a DADGAD on her an you have Celtic thickness icon wink Ovation Ds768 ccb Long Neck Baritone Acoustic Guitar    I just re-strung her with a set of Yamaha, light gauge, phosphor bronze strings, .12-.53.    The body depth (bowl depth) is approximately 5 1/8 inches at the deepest point. I believe this would be termed a "mid-bowl depth" by the current Ovation definitions. The body is the standard Ovation Lyrachord composite material used on all Ovations. This provides consistent tone, year after year after year. The color is dark, dark. DARK chololate. There are no scratches on the bowl of the guitar.
She comes with the original case, case key, and documentation that I received when I bought the guitar new. The case is in great condition - all latches and hinges are intact and working as designed.
I hate to see her go, but I'm doing a 1960's rock & roll gig right now, and I had to pick up a Gretsch Country Gentlemen. And now the bill is due. I only sell a guitar if the proceeds are going for another guitar (wood for wood, so to speak), so, this little jewel needs a good home. She understands. She needs to be played. I'm tellin' ya, I've seen these guitars with more SHOP WEAR (as in scratched up from people playing them in the shop) than this baby has. I've taken care of her. You are so gonna dig the sound of this guitar!
The tension on the strings will be greatly lowered for shipping, plus, she'll be professionally packed by a UPS store I've used before. They do A LOT of guitars, and they get to you in one piece!
And one last thing - street price on a new one is $1949.00. Buy NOW and SAVE $$$ icon wink Ovation Ds768 ccb Long Neck Baritone Acoustic Guitar
