Vintage 1959 Gretsch Anniversary w/OHSC!

Here's a fabulous Gretsch Anniversary from mid-1959 that plays and sounds even better than she looks! This "single Annie" (one pickup model) is also known as Model 6124. Introduced in 1958 to commemorate Gretsch's 75th anniversary of manufacturing musical instruments, the nameplate began appearing on the peghead around mid-1959. This early Anniversary features the guitar's original specifications, including Patent Applied For Filter 'Tron pickup and ebony fingerboard. In 1960 the fingerboard switched to rosewood. Other features are bound top and back, "G"-tailpiece, space-control roller bridge, raised pickguard with logo, chrome-plated hardware, and open-back Grover Statite tuners. An unbound peghead with logo inlay and nameplate completes the look. Controls include volume knob on the upper treble bout and 3-way tone switch (the "mud switch") on the upper bass bout. The Anniversary is 16" wide and about 2 3/4" deep at the rims with a 24 1/2" scale length.

Overall this '59 Annie is in amazing condition. The sunburst finish is still bold and vibrant with some light checking around the edges. A few small nicks and indents on top are mostly confined to the lower treble bout and very minor, and the back has light buckle marks and slight wear at one edge. The frets and fingerboard are in great shape, no divots or grooving, and the back of the neck is smooth with just a few small nicks from leaning against an amp, no doubt. The PAF Filter 'Tron pickup sounds terrific and the action is smooth and fast. The clear pickup surround is newer, the original is included in the case pocket. The tuners are newer Grover Statites, similar to the originals, but not exact. There were previously Kluson-style machines installed, too. The pickguard is in incredible condition so I am not positive it is original, but it may be, considering the rest of the guitar's condition. Some of the early Anniversary models had a white pickguard. No cracks or deterioration in the body bindings, and just the slightest binding separation below the joint, barely enough to slip a piece of paper in between. Very typical and not an issue at all. The original Gretsch hardshell case is still holding up after 50+ years. The outside is well worn around the edges and the handle is now rope, but all latches work except for the missing lock latch, and the inside is in good condition. This is a truly excellent vintage Gretsch guitar, and about as clean a 50-year old rocker as you'll find!
