1960 GRETSCH 6161 ELECTROMATIC AMPLIFIER!
For your consideration is this vintage and increasingly rare 1960 Gretsch 6161 Electromatic electric guitar amplifier. Manufactured by Valco, the Gretsch 6161 has become a sought-after classic amp thanks to it's warm tone, beautiful tremolo effect and good looks.
Features of the 6161 amplifier include dual-channel operation - 1 Regular channel and 1 Tremolo channel, both with Volume, with the addition of a switchable Tremolo control for the latter, and master Tone control. The 6161 puts out approximately 17 watts RMS of power courtesy of 3 12AX7 pre/trem. tubes, 1 5Y3 rectifier and 2 6973 power tubes through (in this case) 2 8" speakers and a 3" tweeter.
This particular example, serial number T48824, is in perfect working condition, sounds frankly stunning! Everything appears to be original, save the 8" round speakers in place of the original elliptical speakers, and works perfectly with no noise, scratchiness, popping or intermittence. The Tremolo effect as well works perfectly and provides an effect truly limited to authentic vintage amplifiers. This tremolo is to die for! The 8" speakers, as mentioned before, are not original, but are both in perfect working condition with no cone damage, nor fatigue or voicecoil distortion. The 3" tweeter appears to be original. The tolex is in great shape with minimal damage, just a couple minor nicks, and the grillecloth is free of rips or tears. I will include a foot switch for the tremolo (non-original, one-button fender foot switch) and some extra preamp tubes in addition to the preamp and power tubes currently in the amplifier. Also, some of the pictures show the amp w/out any knobs. I have since added some replacement volume/tone knobs that compliment the purple amp jewel nicely when the amp is on and lit up! Check my feedback to assure that your item will be professionally packed and promptly shipped! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this item! More photos upon request!
Be sure to see my pictures below: All pictures are of the actual amp. Overall it is very clean for being 50+ years old and sounds as good as it did when it left the factory (maybe even better w/age?)
