We've been getting VERY lucky lately with the quality of vintage guitars that keep turning up for our purchase, and this beauty may be the best one yet.
Here is a 99.9% original 1964 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins hollowbody guitar in NEAR MINT condition! And not only is it the finest example of this model we've ever seen, this one also comes with most (or all) of the case candy or paperwork that originally came inside the case! Everything on this beautiful guitar is original, with only one exception - the previous owner replaced the original Gretsch bridge with the more intonation friendly Tune-o-Matic on top of a Rosewood base. However, the original Gretsch bridge is included. The Gretsch case is also original, and is in EXCELLENT condition.
This beautiful 1964 Gretsch 6120 - serial number "64923" stamped on top of the peghead - looks, plays and sounds amazing. According to known Gretsch records, the serial number definitely dates it to 1964, but some of the appointments, most notably the lack of a "Nashville" nameplate on the peghead and the smooth leather back pad, could possibly make this one a rare transition model from either very early 1964, and possibly from late 1963. We purchased the guitar from a very established and noted Nashville songwriter, who bought this guitar from its original owner more than two decades ago. He has used it quite sparingly ever since, hence its incredible condition.
Additionally, the guitar has been inspected and verified as
completely authentic by none other than Joe Glaser of Glaser Instruments here in
Nashville, Tennessee. If you don’t know who Joe is, Google his name and you’ll see
that not only is he the finest luthier in Nashville, but probably one of the
best luthiers in the entire world. Joe is the luthier of choice for guitar legends
such as Vince Gill, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Eric Clapton, and many, many
others. If you wish, you can call us at 615-613-1389 and we would be happy to pass
along his contact information so you can talk to him directly about this
incredible find.
As with any 43-year-old guitar, there are obvious signs of normal play wear on this instrument ... most notably the very minor checking on the peghead, the obviously played but lovingly cared-for fingerboard, and a few very minor spots on the back of the neck and the body. But NOTHING takes away from the overall incredible condition of this highly collectable guitar. Even the pad on the back of this model - which on most other Gretsch's of this vintage are in terrible condition - is in NEAR MINT condition.
If you've been waiting for that one vintage Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins guitar that takes your breath away, you just found it. You really have to see this guitar in person to realize and appreciate its incredible condition. Check out all 33 photos of this incredible guitar below and don't hesitate to call us with any questions. We think you'll agree this is one VERY special guitar!
