1966 Gretsch Duke

The Gretsch Silver Duke was a very limited model made to honor a long time employee, Duke Kramer. What a sexy guitar, and what way to get honored!

At it's heart it's their best version of the Corvette. Thin and contoured mahogany body/neck with rosewood fingerboard, light and resonant at only 6.5 lbs, a "chunky but too chunky" neck, totally rad 2/4 split headstock, a Gretsch branded Bigsby vibrato bar, and two of their classic HiLo Tron pickups.

This one's for those affraid to touch most vintage guitars.  It started out as a white guitar with some silver flake added for some pizazz. Over time the clear coats of paint have yellowed out yielding a creamy color. It is a cool natural relic with the normal nicks/scratches and then some. The largest nick is on the treble cutaway and goes into the wood about an 1/8" of an inch. Paint has chipped off down to bare wood in spots and there is some checking. There looks to have been some touching up of the paint around the neck joint. The neck is straight and set at a good angle. A very solid feeling guitar. The frets are original and have an average amount of wear. It's a pretty easy player. The action is set at a medium height and with the original small frets there's some buzzing once you work your way up the neck. The electronics are original but the knobs are not.

There may be cleaner vintage guitars out there, but not too many cooler than a Silver Duke. Gotta have at least one Gretsch around.
