***1975 Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean***
We're offering this rare vintage 1975 Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean Model 7655 in the beautiful transparent Dark Cherry shaded finish with the original Gretsch hardshell case. PLEASE SEE ALL THE PICS BELOW. This American-made one owner Gretsch was purchased by the original owner in 1975 from Cooper Bros Inc., Kensington, PA. It's in exceptionally nice condition, especially considering it's over 35 years old. It's strung with fairly heavy gauge flat wound strings(which gives it some great jazz/rockabilly tone) and plays very well with nice action. Though there is some fret wear in the lower positions on the treble side, the notes ring true with no fret buzz anywhere. The neck set and binding(which can be problem areas for some older Gretsches) have no issues whatsoever. Overall, a gorgeous collectible instrument that plays and sounds great.
The serial number decodes as follows: Hyphenated number on label(from the 70s): 1 or 2 digits before hyphen=month(1-12); First digit after hyphen=last digit of year; Last 3 digits=rank of instrument - Serial # 10-5133 = October, 1975, 133rd made.
The all original features include a semi-hollow bound body with open bound f-holes, a 22-fret Rosewood fretboard with neo-classic inlays, dark finish headstock with inlaid logo, three-per-side tuners, raised silver color pickguard with Chet Atkins "signature" & Tennessean, Adjustamatic bridge, and Bigsby tremolo tailpiece. It also has some of the earlier "unique" Gretsch features, such as the zero fret, "T-roof" logo, and screw-down, knurled strap holder/buttons. The electronics consist of two Gretsch Hi-Lo'Tron pickups with chrome pickup surrounds, Volume controls for each pickup with a standby switch next to them, a Master Volume on the upper treble bout, and two tone switches on the upper bass bout.
The original reptile pattern case with Gretsch badge is warn around the edges but in very good condition overall. Get this collectible USA vintage Gretsch for hundreds less than the price of a new Japanese Gretsch Tennessee Rose(sells for $2,124.99 at MF). Check our opening no reserve bid, or use the Buy It Now to avoid getting picked off. Thanks for looking and good luck!
