We have here the essentials for making a vintage real Gibson,R code(1960) beautiful cherry sunburst top is book matched and has a touch of flame and a little birdseye(little).The back appears to be 1 piece red stained mahogany.The back has places where the nitro mated with the vinyl backing of a strap or some plastic or vinyl in several places.Often times you can buff or polish a lot of that away.You can also see some of the red stain faded into the binding.Now let me just make it easy.This is easily turned into a players guitar.Alot of work and money you make it what you want it to be.It definetly has the original Gibson tailpiece and Klusons of which has a bent stem.Inserts,truss cover,nut & decal are intact.At some time in its life it had an accident at the neck heel.I noticed it was darker and stained looking.It needs a neck set anyway.Thats the biggie. $150-$250 depending on who you know,how good they are etc.If you can do a neck set this one's not gonna cost you alot.The sides are not very translucent at all,making me think they got re-shot with finish at the accident time.To finish out the guitar - get 2 pots,a jack,a cap,some wire,a use P90,or a new one or try a Gretsch or Ricky.A pickguard if you wish but these guitars are nicer looking I think without one. A bridge,strings & your on. Depending on what you buy,you could spend $100.00 or less on parts,reset neck & you have a serious,respect commanding nice vintage Gibson that people will covet.The frets show a bit of wear & the fingerboard some real players or just someone who has a family usually are just glad to find an old Gibson they can afford.Even if they have to wait for some Christmas money for the neck reset,trade a pedal for a pickup etc. I must say this,I am sure I missed some cosmetic things,I could have missed a repai like when I siad the sides had been resprayed,you usually don't see that happen without a reason.I guessed it had something to do with the neck repair. Some dings on the headstock have been touched up.The back of the neck has some dings,dents & capo marks.Even with that - its still like holding mama's hand.All in all it just depends on if things a first timer could do & then have patience for a luthier to do his part.The body of the guitar looks like its real rough but its pretty smooth.You can get a chinese hollowbody for about the same money.Or you may be like me as I am getting older.A guitar over 50 years old is really not that old at all.Its just getting broken in.
